The gauge measures the depth of crimp of the valve pedestal. To operate you push down the stretcher bar & expand the springs. Then you introduce the valve pedestal crimp, when the valve is in measuring position the stretcher bar is pushed back. Comes with a master that measures .1575 = 4mm
